The Story in 60 Seconds

Celtic winger Yang Hyun-jun has earned an exemption from South Korea's mandatory 21-month military service after his national team won the 2026 Asian Games gold medal. South Korea defeated host nation Japan 1-0 in the final held in Fukuroi, courtesy of a goal from Swansea City's Eom Ji-Sung.

Yang did not feature in the semi-final or final due to an ongoing hamstring injury. Selected as a wildcard by coach Lee Min-sung, the 24-year-old was absent for several key Celtic matches during the tournament, including two defeats to Rangers and a Europa League loss to Ferencvaros.
