Tuchel says Cole Palmer is paying the price for his controversial withdrawal from England’s last camp.
England manager Thomas Tuchel has left Chelsea forward Cole Palmer out of the national squad for upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Spain. Tuchel explained that Palmer's omission stems from his previous withdrawal from the squad due to a minor injury, despite playing a full match for Chelsea shortly after. The manager noted that Palmer has missed critical opportunities to impress while other players earned trust during the prior camp.
Palmer was among five players who withdrew from the previous England squad, with Declan Rice being the only one recalled this time around. Tuchel stressed that preference is given to players who attend camp and prove their commitment. Instead of Palmer and the omitted Kobbie Mainoo, Tuchel handed maiden international call-ups to Jobe Bellingham and Josh King.
