Boston's tourist chief has branded the Tartan Army a 'different breed of fan' after new figures showed they had the biggest spending increase at bars of any city during the World Cup.
Boston recorded the largest increase in bar and restaurant spending of any World Cup host city, driven by Scotland supporters. Official figures revealed a 28 percent rise in hospitality spending during the tournament's first two weeks, when more than 50,000 Tartan Army fans arrived for matches against Haiti and Morocco.
Meet Boston CEO Martha Sheridan credited the Scottish fans for the surge, noting their extended stays between games boosted local establishments. Tourism officials also praised the supporters for their positive behavior and lasting impact across the city.
