Granit Xhaka out of Scotland clash amid Covid vaccine certificate investigation

Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka has been omitted from the national squad for upcoming Nations League matches, including a clash against Scotland at Hampden Park on September 29. The decision was mutually agreed upon by the Sunderland midfielder and the Swiss Football Association. This omission comes amid an ongoing investigation into an alleged fake Covid-19 vaccine certificate obtained by the player.

Xhaka admitted on Instagram that he obtained the certificate due to fear and a deep distrust of the vaccine during the pandemic. Swiss Football Association president Peter Knbel confirmed that Xhaka will miss the international window, which also includes matches against Slovenia and North Macedonia, to allow the team to focus on their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.
