Both sides of the Old Firm were keen to land Brad Friedel before he went onto become a household name down south

Former United States goalkeeper Brad Friedel revealed he rejected contract offers from both Celtic and Rangers during his career. Friedel explained that he turned down both Scottish clubs because he was ultimately drawn to the appeal and financial opportunities of the English Premier League, where he went on to make 450 appearances.
Celtic offered Friedel a permanent contract around 1993 following a trial under manager Liam Brady, but the club faced financial difficulties. Later, Rangers manager Walter Smith offered him a contract before Friedel decided to join Liverpool in 1997 instead.
