Rangers were awarded a somewhat contentious penalty in the first half of their 2-0 win over St Mirren. James Penrice went to ground under contact from Sam Ramos…

Former referee Keith Hackett has defended the decision to award Rangers a penalty in their 2-0 victory against St Mirren, countering criticism from pundit Chris Sutton. Referee Nick Walsh pointed to the spot in the first half after James Penrice went down under contact from Sam Ramos, with VAR upholding the call. Ryan Naderi scored the resulting penalty before Dan Neil later secured Rangers' second goal.
While Sutton and James McFadden argued on Sky Sports that the minimal contact should not have warranted a penalty, Hackett told Ibrox News that the challenge was careless under the Laws of the Game. Hackett stated that regardless of how minimal the contact was, Ramos showed a lack of precaution, making the foul a correct penalty decision.
