The Story in 60 Seconds

Former Rangers striker Kevin Kyle has warned that signing Rangers defender Olwethu Makhanya would be a gamble for English clubs at this stage. Scouts from Brentford and Sunderland reportedly watched the 22-year-old South Africa international during Rangers' 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock at Ibrox. Kyle argued on the Go Radio Football Show that Makhanya has not yet faced enough elite attacking tests in the Scottish Premiership to justify rumored transfer valuations of £15 million to £25 million.

Ibrox News notes that Rangers signed Makhanya from MLS club Philadelphia Union for £3 million on a permanent deal. He has formed an effective central defensive partnership with Emmanuel Fernandez under manager Derek McInnes. While English clubs are monitoring his rapid progress after only eight league appearances, Pete Hanson argues Rangers should avoid entertaining any transfer offers during the upcoming winter window.
