Molina: Maldini, Mendes, Zlatan and Scheiner – the doubts about RedBird’s Milan

Investigative journalist Romain Molina has released a 25-minute video analyzing Gerry Cardinale's RedBird Capital Partners and its ownership of AC Milan. The report highlights internal disagreements surrounding Cardinale's €1.2bn purchase of the club in 2022, notably between Cardinale and former executive Alec Scheiner. Scheiner reportedly considered the acquisition disproportionate before departing in summer 2023 to establish Otro Capital with €200m from RedBird.

Molina also examined the sporting management rift that led to Paolo Maldini's exit, citing clashes over introducing finance figures into sporting decisions. Meanwhile, Zlatan Ibrahimovic reportedly holds a secure role as Senior Advisor after investing in the fund, while agent Jorge Mendes has allegedly exerted significant influence over recent summer transfer negotiations involving high-value deals.
