Key Things to Know
  • Italian regulatory bans ended Lazio's shirt deal with Polymarket, while Serie A maintains a separate US partnership.
  • Lazio and Polymarket agreed to terminate their two-season shirt sponsorship on August 11, 2026.
  • Polymarket will reportedly pay Lazio the full €9.5 million agreed upon for the 2026/27 season.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Lazio and Serie A experienced contrasting regulatory outcomes with prediction-market platform Polymarket during the summer of 2026. Lazio terminated its two-year, approximately €19 million shirt sponsorship on August 11 after Italian regulators blocked the platform under strict domestic gambling advertising laws. Meanwhile, Serie A's separate US-focused partnership with Polymarket, signed in May 2026, remained unaffected by the domestic ban.

Under Italy's Dignity Decree, sports sponsorship from betting operators is restricted, leading regulators to block Polymarket locally. Despite canceling the shirt deal early, Lazio secured a full payout of around €9.5 million for the 2026/27 season while leaving open the possibility of future collaboration if regulations change.
