RedBird Capital Explores Acquisition of Al-Nassr

RedBird Capital owner Gerry Cardinale is considering adding Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr to his multi-club network alongside AC Milan.

RedBird Capital owner Gerry Cardinale is exploring the acquisition of Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr to expand AC Milan’s multi-club framework. Preliminary contacts have taken place, with high-level discussions scheduled to evaluate organizational synergies and financial structures across both clubs.

The American investment firm wants to establish direct operational collaboration across sporting, commercial, and technical departments within its sports portfolio. Initial contacts have been preliminary and indirect, but RedBird continues to evaluate strategic options that could strengthen its overall sports network. A critical milestone in these exploratory discussions is now imminent. NawafStats reported: “An important meeting between Red Bird and the Public Investment Fund during the next two days regarding the acquisition of Al-Nassr Club. The meeting is crucial regarding the acquisition of the club by the group or not acquiring it.

Cardinale developed a firm conviction over recent months that a structured multi-club system is vital for driving long-term efficiency and maintaining AC Milan’s competitiveness. RedBird has already implemented early stages of this operational blueprint through its ownership of Ligue 1 side Toulouse. That relationship deepened recently when Toulouse executives conducted a formal visit to Milanello to examine the Rossoneri’s sports infrastructure. Direct talent sharing has also begun, demonstrated by young defender David Odogu transferring to the French club on a loan agreement.

The Al-Nassr project represents one of several options currently under review. Significant logistical challenges remain.

Integrating a Saudi Pro League powerhouse into the RedBird universe would create unprecedented ties between European football and the Gulf region. However, complex commercial realities must be resolved before any definitive arrangement can take shape. The upcoming talks will address television broadcasting rights, league prize money structures, and current sponsorship valuations. Furthermore, RedBird must monitor its compliance with UEFA financial sustainability guidelines, balancing squad cost ratios and capital allocation to protect AC Milan’s domestic and European ambitions as this multi-club ambition unfolds.
