Spain defeated the United States Women's National Team 2-0 in a friendly at Audi Field on Saturday. Patri Guijarro opened the scoring in the third minute with a 20-yard strike, and Eva Navarro doubled Spain's lead in the 14th minute. The defeat marked the first time the US trailed by two goals under head coach Emma Hayes.
The Americans improved in the second half but failed to score, with Sophia Wilson seeing a goal disallowed for offside and Lily Yohannes having a 67th-minute penalty saved by Adriana Nanclares. Spain finished the match with 10 players after Athenea del Castillo received a stoppage-time red card. The two teams will meet again on Tuesday in Chester, Pennsylvania.
