The Story in 60 Seconds

West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez and his former father-in-law Jonathan Toache Bedolla have been accused of selling fake Covid-19 vaccination certificates. Film producer Juan Jose Lopez Ordonez alleged during a press conference on Thursday that the pair worked with a doctor to sell fraudulent certificates featuring stamps, signatures, and QR codes for upwards of $500 each during the pandemic.

The accusations follow previous claims by Ordonez associating Alvarez with a 2024 kidnapping in Mexico City, which the player previously denied. A leaked list reportedly links multiple Mexican public figures to the forged documents, and Mexican authorities may initiate an official investigation as document falsification constitutes a federal crime.
