Former world champion Andre Ward has questioned the praise surrounding Conor Benn's dramatic rehydration following his welterweight bout against Ryan Garcia. Benn weighed 146 pounds for the September 11 fight in Las Vegas, but reportedly added over 32 pounds within 12 hours and later reached around 192 pounds following his second-round stoppage defeat.
Speaking on his podcast, Ward argued that extreme weight cuts shock the body rather than provide a true competitive advantage on fight night. Promoter Eddie Hearn had also expressed concern prior to the bout regarding Benn cutting down to the 147-pound limit.
