Bubba Pollard won the Georgia Summer Nationals at Cordele Motor Speedway, securing his ninth career ASA Southern Super Series victory at the track. Starting sixth, Pollard overtook Spencer Davis on lap 75 to claim his 43rd career series win.
Starting from sixth on the grid, Pollard managed his equipment through traffic before making the decisive move on lap 75 of the 125-lap event. He controlled the restart and established clear air at the front, holding off Davis to maintain his record of winning at least one Southern Super Series race every season since the tour began in 2013.
Pollard explained his early struggles and setup management at the venue. “We’ve had a pretty good package here over the last 10 or 12 years. I really like this place, because you can move around on the racetrack when your car ain’t handling so well. We didn’t fire off good at the beginning of the race. We got stuck behind some guys and made our way back up through there.”
Aerodynamic position proved decisive during the middle phase of the race. Pollard anticipated yellow flags to position himself for the key restart. “I knew the caution was going to come out, possibly lap 65 or so. I just needed to put myself in position. Clean air is everything with these bodies, so we knew we had to take advantage on the restart there. I just couldn’t fire off real good.”
Spencer Davis finished second, taking over the points lead from Tristan McKee, who was absent while competing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at New Hampshire.
Despite moving top of the standings, Davis acknowledged Pollard’s strength at Cordele. “His stats speak for themselves. He’s really, really good here. I knew it was a matter of time before I was going to have to race him. I gave it all I could. Just too free tonight, you know? We were good when we could control the race.”
Colin Allman completed the podium in third, ahead of Michael Hinde and Jett Noland. Allman reflected on his car’s long-run handling: “Fired off really good. I thought we were gonna have a good shot there. Just too free on the long run, you know? First time here with this car on this tire, and we’re just learning it. Just missed it a little bit. We’ll come up with a game plan, come back and try again.” The series next moves to Mobile International Speedway on September 5 for the Battle on the Bayou.
