Unbeaten Irish middleweight Callum Walsh is set for his August 8 homecoming fight against former European champion Tyler Denny, declaring his intention to produce a knockout. Walsh believes his best is yet to come and aims to deliver a definitive performance in Dublin.
Returning to the 3Arena, the 25-year-old feels he has not yet displayed the full extent of his abilities despite his perfect record. He is targeting the bout with Denny as the moment to change that. “I’m still waiting for the career-best performance so far, and hopefully I can have it in Ireland and finally be happy with the fight and show people what I am really capable of,” Walsh told Sky Sports.
To achieve this, Walsh plans a direct and forceful strategy from the opening bell. He acknowledges Denny is a legitimate opponent but intends to prevent him from settling into any rhythm. “I think I need to mix up, definitely more aggressive, 100%, and not let him get in that groove,” Walsh stated. He added that the plan is to “Bring the fight to him.”
This aggressive approach is aimed at securing a stoppage. While prepared to go the full 10 rounds if required, Walsh’s primary objective is clear. “My plan is to definitely be aggressive and try to finish the fight,” he said. He has dismissed predictions of an upset, insisting he is focused on making a statement.
The contest is widely viewed as a significant but manageable step for Walsh. A victory is expected, but the quality of the performance will be closely scrutinized as a measure of his readiness for more dangerous opponents in the middleweight division, such as Cuban contender Yoenli Hernandez. This fight serves as an important measuring stick for his progression.
The bout is part of the Zuffa Boxing 10 card, which is headlined by Aaron McKenna’s world title fight against Etinosa Oliha. For Walsh, however, the night is about proving he is ready for the next level.
