Conor Benn has been identified by promoter Dana White as a foundational fighter for Zuffa Boxing’s commercial model. The British welterweight faces Ryan Garcia in a WBC title bout before planning a permanent step up to the middleweight division.
White outlined his commercial plans for boxing during an interview with DAZN Boxing, pointing to Benn as an ideal candidate around whom to construct a promotional network.
White stated: “Tell me something in the history of the world where trillions of dollars in revenue have been generated, yet at the end of the day there’s nothing there? That’s been boxing,”
He added: “Now I’m going to turn boxing into a business. And when you create a business or build a business or invest in a business, you have to have people that you can invest in. Who can you build a business around? Everything that I have seen from Conor Benn, he’s a guy you can build a business around . Disciplined, hardworking, gets the business side and the boxing side. Works hard on both ends. He’s one of the most unique fighters I’ve ever met.”
Benn has returned to the 147lb limit following a four-year absence from the division. His recent career features a split series across two bouts with Chris Eubank Jr at higher weight classes. Following the clash with Garcia, Benn intends to move up to 160 pounds.
Navigating the 160lb division presents distinct structural choices for Zuffa Boxing. Established titleholders such as Carlos Adames, Yoenli Hernandez, and veteran champion Erislandy Lara present formidable defensive tests. Matchmaking strategy may instead prioritize vacant sanctioning body belts, secondary hardware, or accessible titleholders such as Aaron McKenna to protect the asset.
A trilogy fight against Eubank Jr remains a primary option for revenue generation.
At 36, Eubank retains strong domestic appeal in Britain while offering a manageable tactical profile compared to top-tier middleweights. While British fight fans continue to support Benn due to his famous surname, gaining traction with American audiences requires consistent results. Careful match selection will decide whether Zuffa Boxing can build a sustainable commercial operation around Benn without exposing defensive vulnerabilities against top contenders.
