Former world champions Demetrius Andrade and Jermall Charlo have verbally agreed to face each other in the ring following a heated social media exchange. Both fighters expressed a mutual desire to organize the bout, though financial terms remain unsettled.
The two former division holders spent nearly 15 minutes trading insults on a livestream before turning their focus to a potential matchup. Andrade challenged Charlo directly to stop talking and commit to making the fight.
Addressing his rival on the stream, Andrade outlined his motivation for pushing for the bout. He said: ““I want to make the best fights happen,”” He added: ““You are one of the fighters that claim to be the best. So therefore, I claim that I’m the best. And you have a great story. I have a great story. So we need to fight.””
Charlo responded without hesitation. He said: ““I want to fight. Let’s do it.””
The agreement lasted only a few seconds before both men returned to predicting victory. Andrade dismissed Charlo’s offense, promising to outbox him with his jab while labeling Charlo’s own jab overrated. Charlo replied with repeated promises of a knockout victory.
The debate also touched on past performances and shared opponents. Charlo referenced Andrade’s stoppage defeat against David Benavidez to question his durability and power. Andrade countered by accusing Charlo of actively avoiding Benavidez.
Money quickly became another friction point. Charlo repeatedly inquired about purse figures and payouts, whereas Andrade maintained that the financial details would resolve themselves once Charlo made a firm commitment. Charlo also claimed Andrade had waited too long in his career to pursue the matchup.
The stream was not entirely hostile. Andrade offered well wishes for Charlo’s training camp and congratulated him on expecting another child before returning to the challenge.
Both veteran fighters have made their intentions clear. The primary issue now is whether promoters and television networks can finalize the contract details to bring the middleweight contest to fruition.
