Daniel Dubois vs. Fabio Wardley Rematch Targeted for Autumn 2026

Promoter Frank Warren confirms an autumn timeline for the Daniel Dubois-Fabio Wardley rematch, but the fight is contingent on Wardley’s physical recovery from their first punishing encounter. Dubois will take another opponent if Wardley is not ready.

A rematch between Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley is targeted for autumn 2026, according to promoter Frank Warren. The fight hinges on Wardley’s physical readiness following their punishing first encounter, with Dubois set to defend his WBO title against another opponent otherwise.

Wardley activated his rematch clause after an 11th-round stoppage loss last month, a fight where he absorbed significant damage despite dropping Dubois twice in the early rounds. Warren has now provided the clearest timeline for the second bout, confirming his team is actively working to stage it later this year. He stated the fight is a priority.

“That’ll go on in the autumn. They’ve called for it, and we’re working on putting that together,” said Warren. The promoter’s comments establish a clear window between September and November for the heavyweight title fight, provided the main condition is met.

The first contest saw Wardley’s reputation grow even in defeat. He showed tremendous heart, but was ultimately broken down by the champion’s persistent jab and forward pressure. Many observers felt the fight could have been stopped sooner, highlighting the physical toll on Wardley. This damage is now the central factor in whether the rematch proceeds as planned.

Warren made it clear that Dubois’s career will not be put on hold. If Wardley is deemed unfit to compete within the specified timeframe, the WBO champion will proceed with a mandatory defense against a different challenger.

“If he’s not fit enough, then Daniel will defend [his title] against somebody else. But [the rematch] is the intention,” Warren explained. This establishes the stakes for both fighters. For Dubois, it solidifies his next move one way or another. For Wardley, the timeline to recover and prepare for a second title opportunity is now firmly set.
