Wardley activated his rematch clause after an 11th-round stoppage loss last month, a fight where he absorbed significant damage despite dropping Dubois twice in the early rounds. Warren has now provided the clearest timeline for the second bout, confirming his team is actively working to stage it later this year. He stated the fight is a priority.
“That’ll go on in the autumn. They’ve called for it, and we’re working on putting that together,” said Warren. The promoter’s comments establish a clear window between September and November for the heavyweight title fight, provided the main condition is met.
The first contest saw Wardley’s reputation grow even in defeat. He showed tremendous heart, but was ultimately broken down by the champion’s persistent jab and forward pressure. Many observers felt the fight could have been stopped sooner, highlighting the physical toll on Wardley. This damage is now the central factor in whether the rematch proceeds as planned.
