Floyd Schofield Sr. has demanded a minimum purse of $2 million each for his son Floyd Schofield and Abdullah Mason to fight. Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez received initial paperwork from Top Rank to open negotiations, but Schofield Sr. stated he will reject six-figure guarantees for the potential lightweight clash.

In addition to the financial terms, Schofield Sr. requested that the opening bout take place in Texas, specifically San Antonio or Austin, with an automatic rematch in the winner's hometown.
