Emanuel Navarrete and O’Shaquie Foster have agreed terms for a super featherweight unification fight on 24 October at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The matchup puts Navarrete’s WBO and IBF titles against Foster’s WBC belt live on DAZN.
The agreement, reported by Sports Illustrated, resolves months of uncertain negotiations after initial doubts over whether the champions would meet in 2026. Foster had expressed growing frustration with delays, indicating in June that he would move up from the 130-pound weight class if a fight against Navarrete failed to materialize. Recent denials from Navarrete’s management regarding completed terms briefly threatened to derail talks, but final arrangements for the San Antonio show have now been settled.
Both fighters currently occupy the top two positions in The Ring magazine’s divisional rankings. Navarrete unified the WBO and IBF titles by stopping Eduardo Nunez in the 11th round in February. Foster successfully defended his WBC belt against Raymond Ford in May, showcasing the sharp defensive skills that define his approach.
The matchup presents a sharp contrast in fighting styles. Navarrete relies on an unorthodox posture, throwing punches from unusual angles while overwhelming opponents with an unrelenting work rate. Foster relies on counter-striking and defensive distance to make opponents miss.
To succeed, Foster must capitalise on the openings Navarrete creates when throwing long combinations. Spending too much time waiting, however, will allow Navarrete to control the fight through sheer volume. Conversely, Navarrete faces a champion who is far more difficult to hit cleanly than his previous opponents, which may force him to be far more selective with his attacks.
