Oscar De La Hoya labeled The Ring a "dead asset" and questioned its editorial credibility under Turki Alalshikh. His comments came as reports surfaced that sports broadcaster DAZN has agreed to acquire a controlling stake in the publication. De La Hoya also alleged that massive Saudi boxing spending has left top fighters idle as they hold out for larger payouts instead of facing one another.
According to Tris Dixon’s Total Boxing, DAZN agreed to acquire control, though the broadcaster declined to confirm or deny the transaction. Boxing News 24 notes that De La Hoya previously sold the magazine to Alalshikh, and a transition to DAZN ownership would present similar challenges regarding how editorial independence and rankings decisions are protected from commercial broadcaster interests.
