Osleys Iglesias will make the first defense of his IBF super middleweight title against Denmark’s Oliver Zaren in Quebec on October 8. The undefeated Cuban puncher will also put his IBO belt on the line against the unbeaten Danish southpaw.
The October fixture was first reported by ESPN KnockOut analyst Julius Julianis. It marks a swift return to Quebec for Iglesias, who secured the vacant IBF championship in Montreal this past April. On that occasion, the Cuban stopped Pavel Silyagin in the eighth round to claim his first major world belt.
Iglesias brings a record of 15 wins with 14 knockouts into his opening defense. The Cuban southpaw has rapidly built a reputation as one of the super middleweight division’s most explosive punchers. He has rarely needed the scorecards to settle his contests, having previously stopped top-tier opposition including Petro Ivanov and Evgeny Shvedenko alongside his championship victory over Silyagin.
The match keeps Iglesias settled at super middleweight following earlier promotional uncertainty. Discussions regarding a potential bout against WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames failed to materialize earlier in the year. With that option set aside, the Cuban remains committed to defending both his IBF and IBO straps.
Zaren faces a massive jump in competition.
The 26-year-old Danish challenger brings an unblemished record of 19 victories, one draw, and seven knockouts into his first world title opportunity. Having spent most of his professional career competing across European venues, Zaren was linked to Iglesias several weeks ago. That opening emerged after Zaren withdrew from negotiations for a proposed European title fight against Jose Luis Navarro, leaving him free to pursue a world title chance.
The matchup presents the ultimate test for the Danish challenger. Zaren has never encountered a fighter with Iglesias’ combination of knockout power and elite ring experience. He must prove immediately that his European campaign has prepared him for a champion who habitually finishes fights inside the distance.
