Ryan Garcia will face Conor Benn in a mega welterweight showdown on September 12, insisting the British contender lacks the speed and top-level experience to survive. Garcia expects an early knockout, claiming Benn is completely out of his depth.
Benn built his career on relentless pressure and brute strength. But Garcia insists raw muscle will fail inside the squared circle. Fast hands and razor-sharp timing will tell the story. Evaluating Benn’s recent performances, Garcia remains totally unimpressed by what he has seen. Talking to Ring Magazine, he dismissed Benn’s record, saying: ““I mean, if you watch the fights, look it, he won them, but there’s nothing that I see in any of those fights that makes me believe that he’s at this level,””
Garcia is predicting a brutal reality check. He believes Benn is walking straight into a trap.
The former interim champion believes Benn cannot handle elite ring craft or defense. Pressure fighters do not scare him. In fact, he claims to have faced aggressive swarmers his whole life. Warning Benn about the gap in class, Garcia said: ““There’s going to be a clear distinction in experience, talent and levels of boxing in the ring. He’s going to be getting hit with punches he usually doesn’t get hit with. He’s going to see a lot of the attempts he does is not going to work.””
Garcia even rates Oscar Duarte higher stylistically, pointing to Duarte’s sparring in Southern California compared to Benn’s preparation in Britain. Benn expects to bully his opponent, but Garcia claims gym wars prepared him for this years ago. Explaining his mindset, Garcia added: ““I think that he has so much… he’s just so oblivious that he’s just going to think that he could just go in there and try to maul me. But he’s going to know that I’ve had guys like this since I was a little kid, bro. Ever since I was like 12 years old in these gyms, they just send people to come after me and rough me up. I’ve been fighting these type of fighters because everybody thinks I’m some type of punk in the gyms my whole life.””
The stakes could not be higher for both men ahead of September 12. Anything less than a fifth-round stoppage will be a massive disappointment for Garcia. He wants a quick execution. Benn is coming for a brawl, but Garcia promises to knock him out cold before the match even settles.
