WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia meets Conor Benn at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with title unification against Teofimo Lopez awaiting the winner. Benn dropped from 185 pounds to make the weight, raising concerns over his physical conditioning and stamina.
Benn came in at 146 pounds during the commission weigh-in after an exhausting weight cut down from 185 pounds. Speaking about the physical toll of making the 147-pound limit, Benn stated: “It does feel like I’ve been through the pits of hell. It’s one of those pits of hell, and I had a fight with Satan, and God brought me back to life.”
Garcia believes the drastic weight reduction will leave his opponent vulnerable to early pressure and heavy counter-punching. Addressing Benn’s team, Garcia said: “Even if he makes the weight, your brain can’t rehydrate fast enough. Them punches are going to do some real damage, and I heard his dad talk like he’s [Conor] going to knock me out. Bet you won’t, and we can bet whatever you want. Your son ain’t going to knock me out. He couldn’t even knock out Regis.”
Garcia plans to target the body immediately to sap Benn’s remaining strength. By working the midsection early, Garcia aims to slow Benn down and break his resistance.

That defensive vulnerability opens up clear lanes for Garcia to land his signature left hook or the right hook he displayed against Mario Barrios. While Benn outlanded Regis Prograis 176 to 108 in his previous match at 150 pounds, he chose a technical approach and failed to secure a knockout against an opponent stepping up in weight. Garcia holds a distinct advantage in amateur experience and hand speed. Still, previous defeats to Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero showed Garcia can become hesitant when trading fire with genuine power punchers.
A decisive victory for Garcia secures his position at 147 pounds ahead of a prospective unification bout against WBA welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez. For Benn, who previously saw a depleted Chris Eubank Jr. struggle after a weight cut in their rematch, this fight marks his final appearance at welterweight before moving back up.
