Four-division world champion Shakur Stevenson has named Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis as his primary targets. He believes victories over both men are necessary to solidify his claim as the sport’s top pound-for-pound fighter, a status he is actively pursuing.
While Stevenson is a fixture in pound-for-pound discussions, consensus rankings typically place Naoya Inoue and Oleksandr Usyk ahead of him. This is a direct result of their achievements as two-division undisputed champions. Stevenson, however, is confident he can reach that level. Following the recent announcement of a new multi-fight promotional deal, the 29-year-old southpaw has made his intentions clear. He is targeting the biggest names available to prove his standing. “They’re my focus,” Stevenson stated, leaving no doubt about his immediate plans.
The fighter expanded on his strategy, confirming the specific opponents required to achieve his goal. “My main focus right now is Devin Haney or Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. Them the guys who I think would show that I’m the one.” This declaration sets the stage for two of the most anticipated potential fights in the lighter weight classes. Still, major obstacles remain for both matchups.
A fight with Haney, the current WBO welterweight champion, has been verbally agreed to at a catchweight of 144 pounds. But that bout is complicated by Haney’s mandatory obligations. He has been ordered to defend his title against Keyshawn Davis, with negotiations already underway. This sanctioning body requirement makes an immediate fight with Stevenson less likely.
The path to Gervonta Davis is also unclear. ‘Tank’ has not competed since a controversial draw against Lamont Roach in March 2025. While he is reportedly planning a return to the ring early next year, his long period of inactivity makes scheduling a high-stakes fight with Stevenson a complex proposition. Stevenson has his targets, but turning them into reality will test his new promotional backing.
