Retired champion Terence Crawford and Ryan Garcia have engaged in a public dispute on social media following Garcia’s two-round stoppage of Conor Benn in Las Vegas. The exchanges have fuelled speculation of a lucrative potential fight arranged by Turki Alalshikh.
Crawford attended the Las Vegas fight night in person and backed Benn to pull off an upset. However, Garcia delivered a swift performance, stopping Benn inside two rounds and forcing onlookers to recalibrate their assessments. Despite maintaining that he is content in retirement, Crawford has repeatedly traded jabs online rather than stepping away from the dialogue.
The escalation escalated after Garcia voiced his frustration with the retired fighter’s commentary. Addressing Crawford, Garcia said: “He’s a hating-ass bitch. You don’t like me? Cool. Come get this smoke then. He’s jealous of me. I’ll beat the f*** out of you.”
Crawford quickly answered the challenge on social media. Addressing the young star, Crawford wrote: ” Ryan Garcia, you’re one funny guy, I tell you. You really a movie character. That’s why I’m entertaining you,” before adding in a follow-up post, “You have absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing, to be jealous of, kid. It seems like you’re the jealous one, mad because I retired my way.”
Garcia holds significant commercial draw and is also exploring a December bout against Pitbull Cruz.
Maintaining visibility across public channels remains a familiar strategy in modern boxing business. Crawford previously secured a major payday against Canelo Alvarez, but lacks clear nine-figure alternatives among current active contenders such as Richardson Hitchins or Shakur Stevenson. Promoters like Turki Alalshikh closely monitor social media engagement to evaluate public demand for high-profile spectacles. If Crawford can provoke Garcia into demanding the match publicly, it could prompt financial backers to intervene with an offer. However, Garcia does not require Crawford to generate massive pay-per-view numbers, as options like Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, or Gervonta Davis remain viable.
