Robert Garcia wants Vergil Ortiz Jr. back in the ring, even if that means accepting an opponent who does little to satisfy fans waiting for Vergil Ortiz Jr. Prioritizes Activity Over Opponent Quality @ Boxing News 24

Trainer Robert Garcia is prioritizing ring activity for Vergil Ortiz Jr. over opponent quality, targeting a December 5 return against Keith Thurman on the David Benavidez card. Ortiz is scheduled to begin training camp next week, with Garcia stressing that ending a potential 13-month layoff takes precedence over waiting for a matchup against Jaron Ennis.
Boxing News 24 reports that Ortiz's team is also choosing to campaign at 160 pounds rather than continuing to cut weight to 154 for unconfirmed opportunities. Garcia expects Ennis to pursue other fights first, arguing that waiting for more prestigious opposition would risk keeping Ortiz sidelined into the following year.
