The Story in 60 Seconds

The World Boxing Association faces scrutiny regarding a potential plan to sanction its vacant "super" heavyweight title for the upcoming fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. The bout is scheduled to take place in Cardiff on December 11, with Fury and Joshua currently ranked second and third in the division by the sanctioning body.

Murat Gassiev holds the regular WBA heavyweight world title following Oleksandr Usyk relinquishing the belts in June. Gassiev's co-promoter Ivaylo Gotzev demanded clarity on sanctioning rules if a new super champion is established above Gassiev, especially since Fury and Joshua are both non-beltholders.
