Aakash Chopra addressed what he called a 'misconception' about Abhishek Sharma's consistency after the opener's brief outing in the rain-hit 5th T20I against West Indies.
Former India batter Aakash Chopra defended opener Abhishek Sharma following his brief six-run appearance in the rain-shortened fifth T20I against West Indies on October 17, 2026. The match at Bengaluru was reduced to nine overs per side, where Sharma hit a six before being caught by Shamar Joseph. India had posted 118 for 5 in 7.4 overs before rain washed out the fixture, concluding the series in a 2-2 draw.
Speaking on JioStar, Chopra stated that expecting consistent scoring from Sharma is a misconception given his aggressive, high-risk batting style. While acknowledging that Sharma struggled for rhythm and performed below par during the series, Chopra argued that occasional low scores are an inevitable reality for batters operating at a 200 strike rate.
