Australia fast bowler Nathan Ellis and all-rounder Joel Davies have been ruled out of the third and final One-Day International against South Africa in Potchefstroom. Ellis sustained a side strain during the second ODI in Johannesburg after bowling four overs, while Davies suffered a hamstring strain while serving as a substitute fielder in the same match. Australia will not call up replacements for either player.
South Africa hold an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, leaving the depleted Australian side battling to avoid a series sweep. Ellis had taken three wickets in the opening ODI and was a key contributor on the African tour. Captain Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are expected to return to reshuffle the bowling attack for the final match.
