Hemang Badani lost CSK head coach race to Zaheer Khan because of this reason

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have appointed Zaheer Khan as their new head coach, ending their long association with Stephen Fleming. Hemang Badani was previously the front-runner for the position and had reached the final stages of negotiations with the franchise before talks ultimately broke down.

The main roadblocks in negotiations with Badani were the contract length and his expected role. CSK offered a year-by-year contract, whereas Badani wanted a minimum two-year deal. Additionally, Albie Morkel's appointment as Joburg Super Kings head coach reduced Badani's anticipated multi-team role to just the IPL franchise.
