The Story in 60 Seconds

Indian batter Tilak Varma emphasized that batters cannot simply attack from the first delivery in T20 cricket, speaking ahead of the fourth T20I against the West Indies at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Varma noted that even on traditionally high-scoring surfaces, players need a couple of deliveries to assess wicket behavior before deciding on shot selection as India seeks to extend its series lead.

Addressing his flexible middle-order role, the 23-year-old explained that he prepares to either rebuild after early wickets or accelerate immediately if the top order bats deep. Varma also highlighted that India holds an advantage with players like Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar, Abhishek Sharma, and himself possessing significant experience playing in Hyderabad conditions.
