Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden has launched a sharp attack on the national selectors for their Test squad choices ahead of the South Africa series.
Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden has strongly criticized national selectors George Bailey and Tony Dodemaide over squad picks for the upcoming Test series in South Africa. Speaking on the All Over the Bar Podcast, Hayden voiced frustration over the inclusions of Nic Maddinson and Sam Harper, arguing that Test candidates should hold first-class batting averages of 45 or higher.
Maddinson earned a recall following injuries to Josh Inglis and Cameron Green, despite having not played first-class cricket since early 2025. Hayden accused the selection panel of disrespecting domestic first-class cricket by overlooking consistent Sheffield Shield performers.
