Jos Buttler, who went under the knife on October 12, 2026, has confirmed a minimum 12-week rehabilitation period and could be absent from England duty until September 2027.
England batter Jos Buttler has revealed he will not rush his rehabilitation from left hamstring surgery and may not play internationally until September 2027. Buttler suffered a grade-three tear while scoring 69 against Sri Lanka on September 24, 2026, and underwent surgery on October 12, 2026. The required minimum 12-week recovery rules him out of England's three ODIs in South Africa in January.
Buttler plans to return during the SA20 before participating in the IPL with Gujarat Titans. Under an ECB arrangement, English players will remain at the IPL through late May 2027, clashing with England's series against Pakistan. Combined with the summer's Ashes and The Hundred, Buttler may next represent England against New Zealand in September 2027.
