Former Australian batter Usman Khawaja has defended revelations in his upcoming autobiography, Sabr, denying claims that he threw teammates under the bus regarding the 2018 Sandpapergate scandal. Khawaja insisted the entire team shared collective responsibility and stood by his assertion that players knew about the ball-tampering efforts during the Test series in South Africa. He also rejected accusations that his remarks were timed to generate publicity.
Khawaja noted that Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft took the blame for the entire team as victims. His book also claimed that he previously urged former coach Justin Langer and CEO Todd Greenberg to ensure the full squad accepted responsibility rather than isolating the bowling group.
