India captain Shubman Gill has suggested that all-rounder Hardik Pandya should play domestic cricket to aid his competitive comeback. Speaking ahead of the first ODI against New Zealand, Gill highlighted Pandya's importance to the national squad's balance and expressed disappointment that a recent niggle ruled him out of India A matches against Australia A.
Pandya has been sidelined with recurring fitness issues, including a symptomatic right tibial bone stress response that disrupted his planned return. Gill noted that having Pandya back would solidify India's lower-middle order at numbers seven and eight as the team builds toward the next ODI World Cup.
