Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg has expressed confidence that an expanded 12-team World Test Championship format will be approved for the 2029-31 cycle. Speaking in Durban ahead of Australia's Test match against South Africa, Greenberg supported the shift from the current nine-team model to allow nations such as Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Afghanistan to participate, including via one-off Tests.
Greenberg highlighted serious financial challenges across global cricket, warning that rising operational costs make sustaining red-ball cricket difficult for several boards. Regarding future tours, Greenberg noted scheduling conflicts with South Africa, identified Pakistan as a commercially viable opponent, and confirmed Australia's upcoming home series against India in 2028-29 and England in 2029-30.
