The Kwa-Zulu Natal Cricket Union has announced a thorough internal review after just under 20,000 fans attended the Durban Test between South Africa and Australia across all five days.
The KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union (KZNCU) has announced an internal review after fewer than 20,000 spectators attended the first Test between South Africa and Australia at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban. KZNCU chief executive Heinrich Strydom stated that the union wants to better understand fan decision-making and improve the live match experience, despite the high quality of cricket displayed.
Several factors likely contributed to the low turnout, including anti-immigration protests and a heavy security lockdown in Durban's central business district near the venue. Economic challenges, including record-high petrol prices, as well as an unusual October schedule influenced by the SA20 and IPL calendars, were also cited as contributing elements.
