The Story in 60 Seconds

England head coach Brendon McCullum praised Harry Brook as one of the best tactical captains he has encountered following a consolation victory over Sri Lanka in Lahore. England finished their difficult ODI tri-series campaign by bowling Sri Lanka out for 331 to defend a target of 387. The win followed three straight losses against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which saw England fail to qualify for the final.

Left-arm spinner Liam Dawson impressed with figures of 4-49 after replacing Adil Rashid due to conditions, while Ben Duckett made successive centuries. McCullum stated England must improve ahead of the 2027 World Cup as they prepare for a white-ball tour of Australia in November. Jacob Bethell and Jofra Archer are set to return for that tour, though Jos Buttler remains sidelined following hamstring surgery.
