The Bangladesh captain threw his weight behind Taijul Islam, who has taken just five wickets in his last five Test matches…

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto blamed his spin bowlers' inconsistency for their defeat in the first Test against West Indies in Mirpur. Defending a target of 170 runs in the fourth innings, Bangladesh took only two wickets—both by seamers—as West Indies chased down the total in 35.1 overs to take a 1-0 series lead. Shanto noted his bowlers failed to judge lengths effectively on a spin-friendly surface.
West Indies spinners took 16 wickets in the match, including nine from Player of the Match Jomel Warrican, compared to just eight by Bangladesh. Shanto argued that Warrican's success stemmed more from poor batting than bowling quality, while defending regular spinner Taijul Islam, who finished with match figures of 2 for 130.
