India head coach explains his flexible batting order approach following Dube's 7 off 10 in Ranchi.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir defended the tactical decision to promote Shivam Dube to No. 4 during the second T20I against West Indies in Ranchi. Dube scored only 7 runs off 10 balls before falling to Roston Chase, but Gambhir insisted that the move was not a one-off and reflected the squad's established policy of middle-order adaptability based on match situations.
West Indies successfully chased down India's 249-5 with six wickets in hand in 18.3 overs, completing their highest successful T20I chase and leveling the series 1-1. Gambhir noted that only openers have fixed spots in T20 cricket and confirmed the team will maintain its flexible approach going forward.
