He won a total of 12 grands prix in his F1 career and was only one of two Australians to have earned the title of world champion.

Australian Formula One world champion Alan Jones has passed away at the age of 80 following a short illness, just three days after his birthday. The Melbourne-born racing legend secured 12 grand prix victories during his career and remains one of only two Australians to win the F1 drivers' world championship, alongside Sir Jack Brabham.
Jones delivered the Williams team its first drivers' championship in 1980 by winning five races and defeating Nelson Piquet. After retiring from Formula One racing, he spent decades as a prominent television broadcaster, notably co-hosting coverage on Nine alongside Darrell Eastlake.
