The Story in 60 Seconds

Colton Herta stated that his opportunity to enter Formula 1 has reached a "now or never" point following confusion regarding his FIA super licence. During the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend, Herta drove in FP1 for Cadillac in place of Valtteri Bottas. While Cadillac initially believed he had achieved the required 40 points, a calculation error regarding his 2025 IndyCar standings left him on 39 points.

Herta is expected to earn another practice session in Brazil to secure the final point needed for eligibility. The American driver noted that returning to IndyCar would likely end his F1 ambitions, adding that he expects decisions about a potential Cadillac race seat to emerge in November.
