Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard has rejected claims that drivers can blame the 2026 regulations for poor performances, arguing that the sport's greatest drivers adapt to any car. Speaking on the Up To Speed podcast after the United States Grand Prix, Coulthard highlighted icons Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher as examples of competitors who never had a bad formula.
Coulthard noted that across various engine and tire eras in his own career, his personal baseline performance remained largely identical. The comments followed the United States GP, where Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli secured a race victory, though title rivals George Russell and Lewis Hamilton kept the championship battle alive heading into Mexico.
