FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem confirmed that the Formula 1 races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi are expected to run as planned. Despite regional tensions in the Middle East that led to earlier cancellations in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Ben Sulayem expressed confidence in the security of the events. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali previously maintained that hosting both races remained Plan A, while an alternative finale at Imola had been considered.
Ben Sulayem stressed that the FIA would never send personnel to an unsafe environment, noting his family continues to reside in the United Arab Emirates. He also explained that contingency plans are prepared, including backup race staff and relying on regional sporting authorities if travel restrictions occur.
