Charles Leclerc topped the opening practice session for the 2026 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas, posting a benchmark time of 1:36.052 for Ferrari. Max Verstappen finished second after his faster 1:35.860 lap was deleted for exceeding track limits. Lando Norris followed in third place for McLaren, while George Russell and championship leader Kimi Antonelli rounded out the top five for Mercedes.
Mercedes faced car balance issues with their updated aerodynamic package, though Antonelli holds his first mathematical chance to secure the drivers' title this weekend. Further down the order, Audi driver Nico Hulkenberg suffered a power unit failure, while American IndyCar star Colton Herta participated in the session for Cadillac, standing in for Sergio Perez.
