Lewis Hamilton took full responsibility for a costly strategy decision during Formula 1's Singapore Grand Prix after dropping from a podium position to finish sixth. Hamilton chose not to pit under a lap-39 virtual safety car, opting instead to stay out on soft tires for an extended 44-lap stint. Over team radio, Hamilton apologized to Ferrari, acknowledging that the personal tactical call cost the team valuable points.
Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc capitalized on the virtual safety car to pit and finished nearly 46 seconds ahead of Hamilton. Max Verstappen claimed victory in the race, narrowing Hamilton's championship advantage over him in fourth place to just eight points.
