McLaren is hoping its upgrade plan can do two things at once: close the gap to the front of the grid while also forming an understanding of which aerodynamic concept it should be targeting for next year's Formula 1 season.…

McLaren plans to introduce phased aerodynamic upgrades over the remaining races of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Team principal Andrea Stella explained that the updates aim to bridge the competitive gap to rivals like Red Bull and Ferrari, allowing McLaren to fight for podium positions on merit. The phased approach will also serve to test fundamental aerodynamic concepts intended for the team's car next season.
The development plan follows the Singapore Grand Prix, where reigning champion Lando Norris characterized the McLaren machinery as the fourth-fastest car on the grid. Stella noted that Red Bull currently holds an estimated three-tenths advantage following their own recent developments, but he remains confident that McLaren's upcoming parts can yield meaningful gains over the final events.
