Oscar Piastri surrendered a potential win at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after suffering a lock-up at turn one following a safety car restart. The McLaren driver went straight on while chasing George Russell with Max Verstappen trailing close behind, eventually dropping to the back and finishing the race in 13th position.
Following the incident, Dutch pundit Christijan Albers argued that Piastri fell asleep at the restart and lacked the racing aggression of Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. Pundit Jacques Villeneuve also criticized the Australian driver, stating he focused excessively on the pursuing Red Bull cars instead of his braking point.
