The Story in 60 Seconds

Ferrari is relying on low-downforce wing set-ups and mechanical compromises on the SF-26 to compensate for a power-unit deficit against Mercedes and Red Bull. Speaking on the Terruzzi Racconta podcast, journalist Stefano Nicoli noted that while Mercedes built its car around a strong engine concept, Ferrari has had to aggressively cut aerodynamic load and stiffen rear suspension to claw back straight-line speed, compromising cornering performance.

Team principal Fred Vasseur confirmed that Ferrari will continue upgrading the SF-26 during 2026 while focusing heavily on an entirely new power unit planned for 2027. Driver Charles Leclerc has acknowledged the ongoing engine struggles, and technical partner Shell is reportedly addressing a fuel-related issue to help bridge the horsepower gap.
